Motor Trail Day Four

Trafalgar Station to Richmond.

Well, the Darmody's missed the 5:30 am breakfast, but with still-sleeping girls nice and warm in the backseat we were ready for the 7.00 am start.

We pushed our way to the front of the convoy and led the team out past the WIN TV team.

This morning's track was excellent, hard and fast.

We made some good time, while still being able to enjoy the wide open spaces.

We led the convoy until Pentland, where we called in at the local Primary School.

Jacob, from the Cowboys, and Leroy Loggins were a bit of a hit with the kids ...

Following a fantastic morning tea we were off again towards a little secret location for lunch. The track was quite good, and was quite open for most of the run. Around one corner we discovered that a water truck must have 'accidentally' spilled its load ... the ensuing wet boggy section of track was fun for some, and a bit much for some others. There were certainly a wide variety of 'techniques' employed ...

Later, we had to pause for a while to assist a fellow 'trailer' with an overheating problem. We pulled into Lammermoor Station to be greeted by lunch under the gazebo, overlooking the fantastic lake on the property. Lunch was amazing, as was the hospitality.

We were entertained by some low flying by one of the station aircraft. The girls had a great time playing with the other kids on the huge grassy lawn, after a great feed of fresh fruit.

All too soon we were off again, and our next track sections saw us drop down onto the old inland sea. This was an amazing sight from the top, as the road winds its way through the massive basin; the dust clouds from the other entrants in front was really quite something.

This track took us to the blacktop where there was the option of 40kms straight to Hughenden, or of taking a specially graded track on a bit of a 'shortcut' (it was actually about 20kms longer). We chose the second option and it was a great drive. A few low hanging trees did cause us some concern, but we made it through unscathed.

As time was tight, the decision was made to head us all on the blacktop back to Richmond, so a relatively simple 140kms later we were getting organised in our Motels for the Richmond Beach Party ...

The Beach Party was a bit of a misnomer, it was cold and very windy!

The people of Richmond put on an amazing evening, with some great food and entertaiment. We retired early to get the girls into their beds, and out of the cold.

Today's Stats:

420kms

2 cars bogged, 1 Nissan overheating, 1 stupid gate ...
