Motor Trail Day Eight
Karumba to Cobbold Gorge.
Today we were in the cars at 5:30am. We loaded our girls in, in their pyjamas, still asleep. They stayed that way the 75kms into Normanton, and started to stir as we waited for Sweep to arrive with the route notes ... (it was still pre-dawn). We grabbed our on-the-go breakfast, found that we did not need initial instructions so we just left and made the most of the 'sleeping miles', and made for Croydon at the front of the pack.
The girls woke about half way to Croydon, and were happy listening to their songs on the CD. We pulled into Croydon and got them changed into their day clothes before letting them loose on the play equipment. They had a great stop, and a good feed, and were ready for the next leg to Georgetown.
Again, we led the group, for a while, but a few stops for minor adjustments saw many of our fellow 'trailers' overtake us. We refuelled in Georgetown and prepared for what was suggested to be a very rough road into Cobbold Gorge.
In reality the road was a bit rough, but not uncomfortable. We did, however, discover that we had a puncture when we pulled over to assist another team who were having vehicle difficulties. It was only a small leak and we managed to travel the last 30kms into the resort, at a reduced speed, and swapped the tyre over in the much safer environment of a car park, rather than the side of a rough road.
We quickly settled into our cabin after a fantastic fresh lunch and prepared for our Gorge Tour.
Team P7 was invited to drive to the gorge, following the bus, so that WIN TV could shoot some footage of us crossing the dry river bed. There would be some great exploring to be done on this property, we'd love to come back with more time ...
This was to be "C" night. Our family attended dinner as Australia's most popular Children's Entertainers: The Wiggles. Some teams went all out with some outstanding costumes.
Daily Stats:
